- The traditional pre-licensure nursing curriculum is offered to qualified high school graduates, university and community college transfer students.
- Traditional students are usually high school graduates with no prior college experience.
- Transfer students usually have completed courses in an academic setting such as a community college, four-year or two-year college/university.
- All Campbell University (CU) applicants with intent to enter the pre-nursing program must be admitted to Campbell University and declared as Pre-Nursing.
- The nursing curriculum consists of two distinct separations – Pre-Nursing for the first 2 years and BSN for the last 2 years. All students (Traditional and Transfer) are initially noted as “Pre-Nursing” students. For traditional students, each division is approximately two years.
- The pre-nursing courses provide a foundation of knowledge in the arts and sciences and satisfies the General College Curriculum (GCC) courses.
- Traditional students may meet these requirements via CU courses and/or advanced placement credit approved by the Registrar.

- All traditional and Transfer students are encouraged to meet with a Nursing Faculty/Staff for advisement on Lower Division courses PRIOR to initial registration.
- All Pre-Nursing students must demonstrate satisfactory completion (no less than a C) of all of the designated Lower Division courses prior to admission into the BSN portion.
- Completion of all pre-nursing courses does not, in itself, guarantee admission into the BSN Program. This program requires a competitive, holistic application with the following requirements:
- Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or above is preferred. The minimum cumulative GPA is 2.8.
- Science Grade Point Average of 3.0 or above is preferred (Biology, Microbiology, Human Anatomy I & II) is preferred. The minimum science GPA is 2.75.

- The BSN application process will commence each Spring semester beginning 2016. Pre-Nursing students who have satisfactorily completed or will satisfactorily complete all Lower Division courses prior to the fall semester of the beginning of professional nursing courses should submit a completed BSN application.
- All Pre-Nursing students should attend a Pre-Application Advising Session sponsored by the nursing program faculty and staff prior to submitting an application.
The process of BSN Upper Division admission will be a joint collaborative effort with the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (CPHS) Admissions Office and the School of Nursing. A representative will be assigned to the School of Nursing (SON) and facilitate the competitive application process. This member will join all SON meetings relative to the admission process, selection and notification. At this time, there are no plans to measure standardized achievement potential as a component of admission.
The admissions process includes meeting specific prerequisite coursework with a minimum grade of “C”. Coursework may be in progress at the time of application, but completed by the start of the student’s first semester of their third year. The preferred minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) is a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale with the minimum for admission a 2.75. The preferred minimum science GPA is a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale with the minimum for admission a 2.75 as well. The admissions process may include a personal interview and each applicant will submit an essay. The admissions committee will evaluate each applicant’s academic performance, essay, service history, special skills and any abilities that enhance the nursing profession. Applicants will be notified by the BSN program of an admissions decision through email and an official decision letter will be delivered early in the spring for a fall start. Pre-Nursing students that do not achieve qualified status will be advised as to alternate degree options available at Campbell University.
Students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program that wish to transfer to Campbell University may be eligible for transfer credit. To be considered, a grade of “C” or better must have been earned in the course work and been completed within the previous three years. The official transcript and copy of the course syllabus must be submitted to the School of Nursing for determination of course equivalency by a faculty with expertise or the BSN Curriculum Committee. Transfer credit is not granted automatically and is restricted to didactic courses with no clinical component. A letter from the Dean indicating that that the student left in good academic and professional standing is required.

- Verbal and writing abilities that are correct, clear and timely.
- Health Care Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate prior to upper division coursework
- Criminal background check
- Applicants must have documentation of the following vaccines and health assessments prior to upper division coursework: Hepatitis A & B, Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap), MMR, Polio, Varicella, Influenza, TB skin test* within one month of registration and annually thereafter. Some clinical sites may require more frequent testing.
- The student must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English to communicate effectively, demonstrate manual dexterity (gross/fine), physical strength to transfer/ambulate, push 200 pounds, perform CPR, hear, touch, smell and distinguish color, think critically, and the ability to accept responsibility. The use of an assistive device to demonstrate ability is considered.
*If the TB test is positive, a chest x-ray is required.
